After practicing law for two years as a litigator in civil and commercial matters within the Montreal law firm of McAllister, Blakely, Turgeon & Hesler, Serge Pisapia worked for 22 years as vice-president and director of operations of the general contracting firm of Pisapia Construction Company Limited, in Montreal.

His responsibilities included the direction and supervision of the operations of the company and its subcontractors in coordination with the owners and their consultants, from the signing of the contract up to the negotiation of the last claim relative to the project including the preparation of litigious files, the support to lawyers and experts and testimony in court.

After performing some mandates as senior consultant in a firm specialized in project and construction management services, Both Belle Robb Limited (BBRL), in Montreal, Serge Pisapia acts, since 2002, as an independent third neutral in dispute avoidance and resolution in the construction industry.

It is in that capacity that he acts as a facilitator, mediator, member of dispute resolution boards and arbitrator for the prevention and resolution of contractual construction disputes.

He also trains mediators and arbitrators in developing countries and is a frequent speaker in conferences on construction dispute avoidance and resolution.

Mr. Pisapia is a lawyer, member of the Quebec Bar since 1978, and a mediator and arbitrator certified by the International Mediation Institute (IMI), ADR Institute of Canada Inc., the Institut de médiation et d’arbitrage du Québec (IMAQ) and the Quebec Bar.

He is a past president (2009-2011) of  the Institut de médiation et d’arbitrage du Québec (IMAQ), the Quebec affiliate of ADR Institute of Canada Inc.,  and was a Chair of the national ADR section of the Canadian Bar Association (2007-2008) for which he still sits on the executive committee . He has also been a member of the participatory justice committee of the Quebec Bar (2004 to 2009).

From 2011 to 2013, Mr. Pisapia was amongst a list of 19 Canadian professionals included in The International Who’s Who of Commercial Mediation Lawyers.

Mr. Pisapia holds a law degree (LL.B.) from Laval University (1977) and has completed  a Masters degree in law (LL.M) and ADR from the  Sherbrooke University, in Montreal (2008).
